A little girls favorite uncle demonstrates the steadfastness needed to achieve his dream, within the harsh confines of Jim Crow segregation.

Mr. Paul reads aloud "Uncle Jeds Barbershop" by Margaree King Mitchell, illustrated by James Ransome. This short, colorful picture book is perfect either as a family bedtime story at home, or for story time at school. With warm, nostalgic illustrations and a memorable main character who never gives up, this heartwarming story book about overcoming great obstacles is excellent for students in first grade, second grade, and third grade. This book is enjoyable at any time of year, while it fits especially well into Black History Month, with its narrative of African American achievement in the face of racism.
