Alfred Nobel was motivated by the will to be useful to others. It led him to invent dynamite, a revolution for the booming construction industry of the late 1800s. Little did he know that his invention would also be used by the military. Later in life, Alfred Nobel donated most of his fortune to establish prizes honoring the greatest contributions to humankind.
