Come along and join Jenny for more mindful breathing as we explore the power of our “Magic Breath.” In moments of intense emotions, it’s important for both adults and children to remember that the simple act of taking a deep breath in and a deep breath out helps move our brain state from dysregulated (fight or flight mode) back to regulated (rest and digest). We empower ourselves and young children when we identify and utilize this powerful tool that is always with us. Model taking deep breaths and talk out loud about it with your little one: “I’m feeling frustrated, so I’m going to take a deep breath.” “I’m so nervous about a work meeting- I should take some deep breaths before it starts.” The more children observe trusted adults managing their stress in healthy ways, the more likely they will adopt the same tools to calm their own emotions as they arise.
